X2TheL’s Top Five Neo Soul Jamz – June 2014

Here’s a look at the hottest NeoSoul Jamz we know about! Not necessarily the newest . . . certainly not the most heavily promoted . . . simply the hottest! We promise you that these are worth checking out! Each month we’ll bring you up to speed!

So, we think that it’s appropriate to appreciate something new that feels old, something old that feels new, something that we’re simply glad happened, and two acapella tracks that demonstrate the timeless artistry of Black Music! Enjoy, y’all!

1) Lee Fields and the Expressions – “Just Can’t Win” This isn’t NeoSoul. This is Soul! The new single is from the forthcoming album, and the video features Margo B., a tremendous actress and singer (and a favorite here at X2theL).

2) Slakah the Beatchild – “Enjoy Ya Self” This isn’t NeoSoul . . . or is it? (This artist is usually classified as HipHop. Who cares?!?! Very creative.) He’s released a lot of trax since this one five years ago, but this has become a modern-day classic . . . .

3) Kindred The Family Soul featuring Chuck Brown and D.J. Kool- “Going To The GoGo” We miss the Godfather of GoGo, and we’re glad that one of our favorite soul-singing couples had the foresight to collaborate with him.

4) “Walk In My Shoes” Emily King

5) “You’re My Star”  Tank
